How to: Ombre Drawers

      Such an easy concept to add a bit of uniqueness in a room, ombre dresses look fantastic in a nursery or kids room and the best part is it's extremely easy to do it yourself.

I wanted to create a yellow ombre for Sophia's chest of drawers, as she's now a toddler I redesigned her space to transform the room from a nursery to a little girls space. Working with what you already have is the best bet as long as your pieces are functional and useful.

This was the white chest of drawers in her nursery

Firstly I choose my Taubman's colour pallet of yolky yellows:

Then I took out the drawers, screwed the handles out and sanded them back with a light sandpaper. Poured the three tones of yellow paint in to three separate paint trays and grabbed a narrow roller for the edges and a wide roller for the face of the drawers.

I waited a couple of days for the paint to dry and replaced the handles (I'm still on the look out for some new funky handles) and hey presto….

                             

This project literally took me two days to complete, now theres a project I know I'm going to complete…

Getting Crate-ive!

It's fair to say I've become a wee bit obsessed with old wooden crates recently, they're just so damned useful! I also like the idea of recycling items that have an interesting history and finding a new life for them in a kids room, plus who doesn't like getting creative with storage?

It all started when I wanted to create some extra shelving to keep some plants on our balcony....

And then the search has just evolved from there onwards. Here are some crate-astic ideas to use in your little un's space...

Sourcing a good deal on a wooden crate isn't as easy as it used to be, but trying Gumtree and Ebay are your best bet online and then there are always sure to be some stashed at your local antique jumble-sales and warehouses. Make sure that you give them a good sanding and if applicable a coat of stain to ward off any nasty splinters your little one might pick up. The limits are your imagination on this adaptable box!

Bunting Love

Such a little detail can make such a difference in a kids space, adding bunting to a kids room just adds to the sense of fun and dabs some extra colour in the mix.

It's a low cost and easy to make yourself option that you can move around easily and it doesn't have to be limited to triangle fabric! Here are some of my favourites that I wanted to share with you:

DIY- a funky paint dipped stool

I love the range of paint dipped furniture coming out in stores, but definetly not their price tag! $199 for a simple wooden stool? Crazy..... So I went and made my own ikea style.

 Here are 7 simple steps to making your own and so easy you can do it over a couple of days.

You will need:

Sandpaper

Painting tape

Paint brush

Paint Primer

Spray paint 

My inspiration:

Firstly buy your own Ikea "Frosta" stool for $14.95

Then select your favourite spray paint colour I chose Seaside gloss make sure you select a high gloss or otherwise you will need to add a layer of varnish after your paint.

Then dismantle the stool taking all four legs off and tape where you would like the paint to end. 

Sand back the untapped area of the stool. Now paint a layer of primer to the legs and the top of the stool:

Leave to dry.

Then lightly sand the primer and spray your paint on. I used two coats on the legs and three on the top and leave to dry:

Screw all four legs back on the top when dry and hey presto:

You now have a funky new paint dipped stool for under $30!!!
